The Duomo in Sorrento, that dates back to the XV century, underwent many transformations in the following centuries. The actual façade, completely covered by marble, was realized in romanesque style in 1924. The side portal – that dates back to 1479 - is very interesting and has on the architrave the the Aragonese crest and the ones of Pope Sisto IV and the one of the archbishop De Angelis, and the five floor-belfry that lies on a basement held from four ancient columns. The clock is decorated with majolicas of local artisanal facture placed on the fourth level of the belfry. The inside has a Latin-cross plan with three naves and side chapels, and presents a sumptuous ceiling decorated with Baroque canvases. Mny artworks are contained in the church: among these there is an archbishop’s throne and a marble pulpit of the fifteenthcentury, rich marble decorations and a chorus of buhl wood of the early 900’s.
