The ancient cult building is in Piazza Viscardi, an area characterized by prestigious aristocratic palaces. Many reliefs and restoration works have brought to light elements of the ancient medieval structure, dating back to the Longobard period of the Chiesa di Sant’Angelo in Munculanis, wrongly considered an 18th century construction. The church with a basilical setting shows, on the outside, the original entrance under the open bell-tower with two Romanesque double lancet windows with capitals, supported by columns of the late medieval period. Inside the five shaft columns with medieval capitals. Under the main nave has been discovered a crypt with draining graves and the original single-lancet windows on the walls of the central nave have been
restored. The church contains a Pietà by Angelo Mozzillo of 1793, a series of frescoes along the apsidal conch and an 18th century terracotta floor. Next to the building is the steeple, made re-using clay bas relieves, with its single and double lancet windows of the cellars, containing the ancient bells.
