Santuario della Madonna dei Lattani
via dei Lattani 1
Territorio: Caserta e Matese
"For those who visit this building of God’s Mother…all the sins of the last one-hundred days will be forgiven…Year 1430", reads the inscription of the mystic sanctuary of the Madonna dei Lattani, elegant and austere built in the Vesuvian area of the territory around Roccamonfina. During the centuries, it has underwent many changes, particularly in the Durazzo and Aragonese period of the Reign of Naples, visible in the stone decoration and chiselling. The Renaissance portico, characterized by curved arches, is near the church stripped of all its 17th century Baroque decorations during the last century. The unique nave interior has lateral chapels and an eastern-oriented apse with wall frescoes. Yet, the core of the basilica is the chapel dedicated to the Madonna dei Lattani with a poly-chromed marble altar, frescoes and antro-phytomorphic. The religious complex has also frescoed cross-vaults and pointed arches with an angle column with floral decorations. The perfect harmony between art and spirituality reigns in the Sanctuary.
