In Vietri sul Mare, charming locality on the Amalfi coast, there is the Manuel Cargaleiro Museum, a space dedicated to ceramics, hosted in the rooms of the ancient Palazzo dei Duchi Carosino.
The foundation has been established by Manuel Cargaleiro, a Portuguese artists, awarded in 1999 with the international prize “Viaggio attraverso la Ceramica”, a contest dedicated to the traditional ceramic art of the “Mediterranean lands” – in collaboration with the Province of Salerno. Inspired to the historical models of the first artistic-industrial museums of the late 18th century, the institute offers the promotion, development and innovation of the contemporary ceramic art, according to the tradition of Vietri sul Mare, careful to the possible application of the ceramic production to the fields of design and architecture. The main core of the museum is represented by 150 works the artist has donated the city. On display are also the works of other ceramists, both Italian and foreign, like Corneille, Erro’, Rosanna Bianchi, Nedda Guidi e Paolo Schmidlin.
